Respondus is a tool for creating and managing quizzes and exams which can then be printed or published directly to Desire2Learn (D2L). Exams can be created offline and then uploaded to the LMS when completed.

Currently, Respondus is for Windows only and cannot be used on the Mac operating system.

Installing Respondus

1. Close all open applications, especially Microsoft Office programs.
2. Download Respondus from the link below. When prompted to log in, type your Ship e-mail address and password.

3. After the file is downloaded, double-click on it to open the zip file. Then, double-click on the Respondus4Campus.exe file to begin the setup process.
4. If you receive the Open File - Security Warning, click Run.
5. At the InstallShield Wizard Welcome screen, click Next.
6. At the License Agreement Screen, review the agreement, select I accept the terms of the license agreement, and click Next.
7. At the Choose Destination Location screen, click Next.
8. At the Projects Folder Location screen, click Next.
9. At the Ready to Install the Program screen, click Install.
10. When prompted, click on Yes to install the Equation Editor.
11. At the Respondus Equation Editor Setup screen, click OK.
12. Click Yes to create the destination folder.
13. Remove the check mark from 'View Read Me' and click OK.
14. At the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen, click Finish.
15. Double-click on the Respondus icon on the desktop, type the following information into the proper fields, and click on License when done. You can find the Installation Password inside the Respondus License file included in your download.

16. At the Respondus Newsletter window, click Close.
17. Select Desire2Learn in the 'Choose CMS Personality' dropdown box and click OK.
18. Click on Help on the menu bar.
19. Click Check for Update. If an update is found, click Get Update.
20. Click OK. Upon exiting Respondus, the update will be automatically installed.

Respondus LE can be downloaded for free. However, you may first want to review the system requirements before downloading the software.

Respondus 4.0 is compatible with the following learning management systems and industry standards:

Important Instructions:
There are 4 steps to downloading and installing Respondus LE.

1. Download the installation program (approximately 10MB).
2. Install Respondus LE, start the software, and obtain the Product ID# displayed on the opening screen.
3. Register your copy of Respondus LE. The activation password is immediately e-mailed to you.
4. Enter the password in Respondus LE to activate the program. That's it!

Note to students: this is not Respondus LockDown Browser and is not a student application used for taking online exams. Contact your instructor to obtain the correct download link for LockDown Browser.

Step 1: Download the Installation Program

Note: you may have to right-button mouse click a link above to download the software to your hard drive.

Step 2: Install and Start Respondus LE

Use Windows' My Computer or Explorer to locate the RespondusLE.exe file downloaded in Step 1. Double-click the file to start the Respondus LE installation program. Several screens will guide you through the installation program. Once Respondus LE is installed, start the program by double-clicking the Respondus LE icon that is now located on the Windows desktop. Or follow these steps to start the software.

1. Click [Start] from the Windows desktop
2. Click [Programs]
3. Click [Respondus]
4. Click [Respondus LE]

The first time you start Respondus LE (and each time thereafter until the program is registered), you will be presented with a screen that provides the 'Product ID#.' The Product ID# is used in Step 3 to obtain the password required to activate the software.

Step 3: Register Your Copy of Respondus LE

Register your copy of Respondus LE. You will be asked to enter information about yourself, including the Product ID# (see Step 2) and a valid e-mail address. (We do not sell e-mail addresses or customer information to third parties. See our Privacy Policy.) Once the registration information is submitted, the password is immediately sent to the e-mail address you provided.

Step 4: Enter the Activation Password

Once you receive the password by e-mail, it must be entered into the Respondus LE program. If you haven't done so already, start Respondus LE (see Step 2). Enter your password when prompted (you may want to 'copy and paste' the password from the e-mail message in order to prevent typing mistakes). Click [OK] to continue. The Respondus LE software is now activated. You will not need to repeat Steps 1-4 in the future, except when upgrading to the latest version of the software.
